I studied painting at the Portland School of Art in Maine and during that time, I traveled to many areas along the coast to extensively study the landscape, homes, and light which caught my eye. During one of my painting trips to Cape Cod I was floored by the shimmering light of the tall, golden grass and the intensity of blues in the Atlantic ocean. The lifeguard towers, the wooden homes, the softness in the sand dunes, all inspired me. Years later, I would go on to refine my painting skills and I often refer to my early drawings and paintings from when I was a student when beginning a new piece for a show.
