This painting has deep meaning for me. It showed at the Patricia Rovzar Gallery booth at the Seattle Art Fair in 2018 and it sold within minutes - to one of the most important collectors in the world who also supports equal justice issues.
If you look closely, you will see her T-shirt and logo for the Equal Justice Initiative and its connection with the National Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration. I made this painting to express my anger that there has been silence about lynching and white supremacy in our country. This young woman has had to carry the burden and consequences of this silence...of being "hushed." The sarcastic title "Not Too Loud" points out that she can know all about this history but has had to keep quiet about it even though she is trying to share her secret with you. A portion of all sales from this print will be donated to EJI and the National Legacy Museum. You can read about EJI here: https://eji.org/.
