When I made The Prayer, I intended it to be a moving and powerful spiritually-inspired work of art. The kaleidoscope of colors are intended to transport the viewer to a place of awe and gratitude - where everything is exuberant and touched by the goodness of life. Place this in your home when you want to feel uplifted. My inspiration for The Prayer was the American Sojourner Truth, who in 1852 responded: "And Ain't I woman?" at the famous Seneca Falls women's rights convention. When men were heckling the women presenters, Sojourner rose to tell her story and ask the men this question. I was so moved by her courage to do this (particularly her courage to face all the white, powerful women who were running the show) and her articulate brilliance in that moment that I wanted to paint a woman with the essence of her bravery and spiritual fortitude.
